‘My daughter often gets anxious around bedtime and finds it hard to get to sleep at night. Can you suggest a natural remedy.’
Medical herbalist Gabriella Clarke provides some options.
Many children go through bouts of anxiety and trouble sleeping but there are things you can do to help them get through it.
Start off by talking to your daughter to establish what has triggered her anxiety in the first place. A few reassuring words and getting to the root of the problem can often be the best remedy.
It may seem obvious but a regular bedtime routine involving some quiet time, a warm bath and a story can really help childhood sleep problems. A mug of camomile or lemon balm tea is also worth trying. If your daughter doesn’t like the taste try sweetening it with honey.
Finally, try putting some lavender oil in an oil burner in your daughter’s room before bedtime to aid relaxation and restful sleep. You can also put a few drops of oil on her pillow.
