History of Fenugreek

It has a long history of traditional medicinal use for its antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic and antitumorigenic activities. The seeds are frequently used, especially in Ayurvedic dishes, to warm and soothe the digestive system.

Current uses of Fenugreek

IMPROVING DIGESTION

Fenugreek seems to have a general anti-inflammatory action on the gut but also calms an upset stomach and relieves constipation.

REDUCING CHOLESTEROL

Whilst more research is needed, fenugreek seems to reduce overall cholesterol levels.

ANTIDIABETIC EFFECT

Fenugreek appears to slow absorption of sugars in the stomach and stimulates insulin production, thereby reducing blood sugar levels in those with diabetes.

INCREASING LIBIDO

Research has primarily focussed on male libido and improving sexual arousal by raising testosterone levels.

INCREASES MILK PRODUCTION DURING BREASTFEEDING

Fenugreek stimulates the milk ducts which increases milk production potentially within 24 hours.
