We all need a bit of an energy boost now and again, and the changing seasons can often be the time when we lose a bit of our get-up-and-go.
Editor Jane Garton tells us how to greet any new season bounding with energy.
SLEEP WELL
Make sure your sleep routine is up to scratch. That means going to bed and getting up at the same time each day and keeping your bedroom for sleep only. If hot summer nights are keeping you awake a dose of valerian can help you to relax and enjoy a good nights’ sleep.
SAY NO TO STRESS
Lazy days don’t always turn out to be as relaxed as you planned. If stress starts to get in the way a dose of rhodiola could help to relax you.
BOOST YOUR ADRENALIN
Guarana can help to boost adrenalin levels. And best of all you won’t experience that rebound tiredness you so often get from artificial and short-lived stimulants such as chocolate and endless cups of coffee.
OIL UP!
Bring summer into your home by sprinkling aromatherapy oils into water around the house. Use peppermint to revive, rosemary to clear the air, lemongrass to wake you up, lavender to uplift and geranium to inspire and invigorate. Alternatively, add five drops of the essential oil to an almond carrier oil and use in a burner.
GET OUTDOORS
Snatch as many moments outdoors as you can. Sunlight helps to boost levels of vitamin D and serotonin, the feel-good chemical that helps to keep you on an even keel. However, if your mood is less than sunny a short course of St John’s wort could soon have you smiling again; it is thought to help boost and maintains levels of serotonin.
