RAISE A GLASS
Older adults who like to tipple moderately on a regular basis are more likely to live to the age of 85 without dementia or other cognitive impairments than non-drinkers. So says research from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine[1]. Cheers!
ORGANIC SEPTEMBER
Help make this year’s Organic September, organised by the Soil Association, the biggest yet. Going organic means higher levels of animal welfare, lower levels of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers and more environmentally sustainable management of the land and natural environment. And this means more wildlife. For information on how to get involved, visit the Soil Association Website
GO NUTS FOR ALMONDS
Eating a handful of almonds a day (30g) could reduce your risk of heart attack and coronary heart disease by lowering levels of harmful cholesterol according to a recent study[2]. These cholesterol lowering effects are thought to be due high levels of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat found in almonds as well as rich amounts of protein and dietary fibre.
