GO PINK AND SUPPORT BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so show your support on Pink Friday, October 23rd. Wear something pink and join up with colleagues, friends and family and eat pink food and drink. For more ideas visit the website.
GET ON BOARD THIS STOPTOBER
Join the thousands giving up smoking for good this year with Stoptober. All you have to do is sign up online to access support over 28 days – expect to be bombarded with texts and emails from Bill Bailey, Rhod Gilbert, Al Murray and Shappi Khorsandi!
Meanwhile, if you start to find it hard to get to sleep try a short course of valerian. Extracts of valerian root contain natural compounds known as iridoids that have a calming effect on the nervous system, which can help relax you and get you in the mood for slumber.
BOOST YOUR VITAMIN D
From mid-October onwards the sun is too low in the sky to stimulate vitamin D production on the skin. Vitamin D is needed for strong bones and teeth so make sure to top-up your supply from food sources such as eggs, oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, fortified spreads and cereals.
If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, over 65 years old, have low or no exposure to sun, have darker skin, or follow a restricted diet consider taking a vitamin D supplement. Babies and children under five also need a supplement.
